Tsukiori (月織) means "weaving the moon."
Japan has long kept time by what is in bloom. Plum in January, camellia in February, cherry in March — a calendar written in flowers instead of numbers. We take that calendar and draw it in a single thin line: one flower, one crescent moon, one traditional pattern (wagara) for every month of the year.
Nothing in these designs is filled in. Every petal, every leaf and the moon itself are outlines only. The empty space around the design is deliberate — Japanese aesthetics calls it ma: the room left for the eye to rest.
Twelve months, twelve flowers, twelve colors. Plum in January, camellia in February, cherry in March — each month paired with its own flower, crescent moon, and traditional pattern (wagara).
